Private Lydia Esther Thornton 

Born February 19, 1922 - Died May 2, 2011

Private Lydia Esther Thornton was born in Santa Cruz, Arizona, on February 19, 1922. She enlisted in the US Army on April 18, 1943, in response to World War II and was assigned to the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.

After the war, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where Private Lydia Ester Thornton graduated from Immaculate Heart College and obtained her teaching certificate.  

She volunteered with other locals to support the 1984 Olympics. Private Lydia Ester Thornton also volunteered as a social worker for the local community after retiring from teaching.

Private Lydia Ester Thornton died on May 2, 2011, and rests at the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, California.
