Navy Airman Brent Allen McCreight, A Sailor's Story
Navy Airman Brent Allen McCreight, A Sailor's Story
Brent Allen McCreight was born on September 25, 1967, in Lima. During his childhood, his family relocated to Eminence, where he was raised and graduated from Eminence High School in 1986.
McCreight was known for his love of the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golf and played competitive basketball in high school. Remembered for his sharp humor, he was voted “wittiest” by his graduating class.
Shortly after high school, McCreight enlisted in the United States Navy. In August 1990, he deployed to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Saratoga in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
On December 22, 1990, while returning to USS Saratoga from authorized shore leave in Haifa, the civilian ferry he was aboard capsized. Navy Airman Brent Allen McCreight drowned in the accident.
He is buried at New Castle Cemetery.
Brent McCreight’s death underscores the reality that military service carries risk beyond the battlefield. Even moments of rest during deployment existed within an environment shaped by operational strain and uncertainty. His service and loss remain part of the broader human cost of the Gulf War.
