Storekeeper First Class Hector Eugene Wade Jr. was born on February 7, 1918, in Greenville, South Carolina. He was raised in Virginia before eventually settling in Columbia, North Carolina, where he would later build his life after the war.

After the war, Storekeeper First Class Wade returned to Columbia, North Carolina, where he raised a family and resumed civilian life. In retirement, he relocated to Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Storekeeper First Class Hector Eugene Wade Jr. died on February 13, 2012. He rests at Oakwood Cemetery in Columbia, North Carolina, remembered as one of the many sailors whose steady service helped carry the nation through World War II.
