Private First Class Scott Alan Rush, A Soldier's Story
Scott Alan Rush was born on February 16, 1971, in Pueblo. When he was twelve years old, his family moved to Spring Lake Park, where he spent his teenage years and graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 1989.
From an early age, Rush knew he wanted to be a soldier. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, committing himself immediately to military service at a time when global tensions were beginning to rise.
Private First Class Rush trained as an explosives specialist and was assigned to the 317th Engineer Battalion. His role placed him in a demanding field that required technical precision and discipline, supporting combat operations through construction, demolition, and battlefield preparation. He was stationed in Germany before being called forward.
In the fall of 1990, in response to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Rush deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of the U.S. military buildup in the Persian Gulf.
On January 6, 1991, while deployed, Private First Class Scott Alan Rush lost his life when his sandbag bunker collapsed. His death occurred before large-scale ground combat began, underscoring the constant danger service members faced even away from the front lines.
Private First Class Rush is buried at Imperial Memorial Gardens and returned home to the community where his life began.
His story is one of youthful resolve and quiet service, a reminder that many lives were lost not in battle headlines, but in the everyday hazards of war, borne by soldiers who answered the call without hesitation.
