Specialist Steven Paul Farnen
Born November 15, 1968 - Died February 25, 1991

Specialist Steven Paul Farnen was born on November 15, 1968, in Marceline, Missouri. He attended Salisbury High School, where he was involved in both the Drama Club and the Future Farmers of America. He graduated in 1987 and enlisted in the United States Army shortly thereafter.

Farnen trained as a truck driver and served with the 24th Mechanized Infantry Division. After completing his three-year active-duty commitment, he continued his service in the United States Army Reserves.

Upon returning to Missouri, Specialist Farnen began training to become a commercial airline pilot, pursuing a future shaped by discipline, skill, and responsibility. That path was interrupted when he was recalled to active duty following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. In February 1991, he deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Gulf War.

On February 25, 1991, Specialist Steven Paul Farnen was killed while serving overseas when a missile attack struck and destroyed his barracks. His death came during the final days of the conflict, underscoring the continued risks faced by service members even as the war drew toward its conclusion.

Specialist Farnen is laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Salisbury, Missouri. His life and service stand as a reminder of the young men and women whose futures were cut short while answering their nation’s call.
