Specialist Payton Alexander Jones
Born July 8, 1992 - Died March 1, 2012

Specialist Payton Alexander Jones was born on July 8, 1992, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. His family later moved to Marble Falls, Texas, where he developed a love of surfing, swimming, and playing football. He graduated from Marble Falls High School in 2010. 

Shortly after completing high school, Jones enlisted in the U.S. Army. He underwent basic training and further specialized training, ultimately being assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. 

On March 1, 2012, while deployed in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan (in the Sangsar area), Specialist Jones was wounded by small-arms fire during a "blue on green" attack on his base.  He was 19 years old. In the same incident, Staff Sergeant Jordan L. Bear was also killed. 

He rests at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet County, Texas.
