Staff Sergeant Jordan Logan Bear
Born June 7, 1986 - Died March 1, 2012

Staff Sergeant Jordan Logan Bear was born in Denver, Colorado, on June 7, 1986. He grew up in Denver and attended John F. Kennedy High School, where he was an active member of the football team. He graduated in 2004. Shortly following graduation, Jordan answered the call and enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 2004. He was also a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.

He completed Basic Combat Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was subsequently assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

His first deployment to Afghanistan began in February 2007 and lasted through April 2008. It was during or after that tour that he earned promotion to sergeant (in October 2007). He returned to Afghanistan for a second deployment from August 2009 through July 2010.

In January 2012, Jordan began his third deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On March 1, 2012, while assigned to a joint U.S.–Afghan base in Zharay District, Kandahar Province, he was killed by small-arms fire in a so-called “green-on-blue” (insider) attack, along with Specialist. Payton A. Jones. At the time of his death, Jordan was 25 years old.

He rests at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
