Seaman Rhys Durward Sirjane was born on November 19, 1940, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He attended Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, where he participated in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and spent his summers working as a lifeguard. Inspired by a desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1958.

In 1960, Sirjane was called to active duty and assigned to the USS Fort Snelling (LSD-30), an amphibious landing ship that supported training operations and the Navy's amphibious mission during the Cold War. Serving in the ship's First Division, he helped maintain the readiness and operational capability of a vessel designed to transport and support landing craft and Marines. He completed his enlistment with honor and was discharged from active service in 1962.

Following his naval service, Sirjane pursued higher education, attending Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, before continuing his studies at Loyola University. He subsequently dedicated much of his professional life to public service and law enforcement. Over the years, he served with the New Orleans Police Department and the Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department before joining the United States Marshals Service.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sirjane was known for his love of woodworking, reading, and firearms. Friends and family remembered him as a man of varied interests, strong work ethic, and enduring commitment to service.

Seaman Rhys Durward Sirjane passed away on December 16, 2015, leaving behind a legacy of military service, public service, and dedication to his community.
