A Soldier's Story: Captain Lewis Nixon III

  Captain Lewis Nixon III was born on September 30, 1918, in New York, New York. His family was shipbuilders, and he learned to sail early in life. Captain Lewis Nixon traveled extensively through the US and Europe and was privately educated for much of his life. He graduated from the Cate School in Santa Barbara, California, before he attended Yale University for two years in New Haven, Connecticut. In response to World War II, Captain Lewis Nixon III enlisted in the US Army on January 14, 1941, volunteering for the newly created parachute infantry.   Captain Lewis Nixon was first assigned to the 506th Parachute Regiment before his unit was absorbed into the 101st Airborne.  He deployed to Aldbourne, England, in September 1943 and participated in the June 6, 1944, airdrop on Normandy. Captain Lewis Nixon III was also present at the Battle of Carentan on June 12, 1944. Captain Nixon also served on patrols in Belgium and Germany before being wounded in the Netherlands...

An Airman's Story: Captain James Bernard Poulet

  Captain James Bernard Poulet was born in Redwood City, California, on June 11, 1956. He attended Carlmont High School and played football for the school before graduating from California Polytech University with an Engineering Degree, where Captain James B Poulet participated in the ROTC program. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force on November 12, 1981. Captain James Poulet trained as a Weapons Systems Officer and served aboard F-15s with the 4th Tactical Fighter wing. He had tours in the Philippines, Germany, and South Korea before deploying with his unit to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and the Gulf War. Captain James Bernard Poulet died during his service on September 30, 1990, when his F-15 crashed in Saudi Arabia. A Sailor's Story: Radioman First Class Jason Nelson Robards Jr

  Radioman First Class Jason Nelson Robards Jr was born on July 26, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved first to New York and then to Los Angeles, California. Radioman First Class Jason Robards played football, baseball, and basketball at Hollywood High School before he graduated in 1940. He enlisted in the US Navy shortly after graduation. Trained in communications, Radioman First Class Jason Nelson Robards Jr. was assigned to the USS Northampton and was at sea in the Pacific during the attack on Pearl Harbor and the beginning of World War II. The USS Northampton was sunk during the Battle of Tassafaronga on November 30, 1942, and Radioman First Class Jason Nelson Robards Jr survived the night by treading water near the flotsam. He was reassigned to the USS Nashville and remained in the Pacific Theater. On December 13, 1944, off the Philippine island Negros, the USS Nashville's port was struck by a Kamikaze attack that killed 133 sailors and wounded 190 more. Radioman Fir...
