Specialist Andy Alaniz, A Soldier's Story
Andy Alaniz was born on November 11, 1970, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Moody High School, where he was active in the school’s drama club, before enlisting in the United States Army shortly after his graduation in 1989.
Assigned to the 24th Infantry Division, Specialist Alaniz deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His deployment came just months after his wedding, as the ground war in the Persian Gulf began.
On February 27, 1991, during the Battle of Phase Line Bullet, Specialist Alaniz and members of his unit found themselves caught between advancing enemy forces and U.S. Army armored units maneuvering behind them. Amid the confusion and intensity of the engagement, Specialist Andy Alaniz was killed by crossfire.
