Sergeant Guillermo Esteban Perez, A Soldier's Story
Sergeant Guillermo Esteban Perez, A Soldier's Story
Guillermo Esteban Perez was born on February 10, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas. As a young man, he attended San Antonio College, balancing education with the responsibilities of early adulthood.
On July 17, 1963, Perez enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, serving his country during a period of prolonged conflict and growing uncertainty. Like many who served, his experience was defined not only by deployment but also by the quiet obligation to answer the call when asked.
After returning to San Antonio in 1965, Sergeant Perez resumed civilian life. He completed his education, raised a family, and remained rooted in the community where he had been born. His post-service years reflected a return to ordinary life after extraordinary circumstances, a path shared by countless Vietnam veterans.
Sergeant Guillermo Esteban Perez died on July 7, 2010. He is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. His service and life remain part of the enduring record of those who served during the Vietnam War and carried that service with them long after returning home.
