Sergeant David Quentin Douthit
Born October 20, 1966 - Died February 27, 1991

David Quentin Douthit was born on October 20, 1966, in Ketchikan, Alaska. Raised in a landscape defined by rugged terrain and long winters, he developed a deep love for outdoor sports at an early age. An avid skier and motocross rider, Douthit demonstrated both discipline and fearlessness, winning the Alaska State Motocross Championship in 1982.

He graduated from Soldotna High School in 1984 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1986. Following basic training, Douthit was trained for cavalry units, preparing him for service that emphasized mobility, reconnaissance, and rapid response. His assignments included postings in Germany and Washington State, where he continued to develop his skills as a soldier.

In December 1990, Sergeant Douthit deployed to the Persian Gulf with the 134th Armored Detachment in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Gulf War. His deployment placed him in active combat operations during one of the most intense phases of the conflict.

On February 27, 1991, while attempting to rescue fellow soldiers stranded in a disabled vehicle, Sergeant David Quentin Douthit was fatally wounded by enemy fire. He was 24 years old.

Sergeant Douthit is buried at Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof, Alaska. His life reflects courage shaped by discipline, athleticism, and a commitment to others,  a soldier who placed himself in danger to protect those beside him.

He is remembered not only for his service but also for the selflessness he showed in his final moments.
