Lance Corporal Arthur Oscar Garza, A Marine's Story

Lance Corporal Arthur Oscar Garza
Born July 10, 1970 - Died January 26, 1991

Arthur Oscar Garza was born on July 10, 1970, in Corpus Christi. From an early age, Garza was drawn to military service and expressed a clear desire to become a Marine. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, committing himself to one of the most demanding branches of the armed forces.

After completing recruit training and advanced instruction, Lance Corporal Garza was assigned to the 1st Marine Division. In 1991, as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he deployed to the Persian Gulf during the buildup and execution of the Gulf War.

On January 26, 1991, Lance Corporal Arthur Oscar Garza was killed in the line of duty during a vehicle collision while returning from a nighttime scouting and reconnaissance mission. His death occurred amid active operations, underscoring the constant risk Marines faced even outside direct combat engagements.

Lance Corporal Garza is buried at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery in his home state of Texas.

His story reflects the resolve of a young man who achieved his goal of becoming a Marine and served when his country called, one of many whose sacrifices during the Gulf War are remembered quietly, but no less honorably.
